Unfortunately, there aren’t many preschool, K-12 schools, or colleges in the Chinese Buddhist tradition in the USA, or for that matter, in any Buddhist tradition in the West. There are less than a handful of private schools in the Japanese Buddhist tradition, for example, Pacific Buddhist Academy in Hawaii, and a couple colleges in the Tibetan tradition, such as Maitripa College in Oregon and Naropa University in Colorado. Below are the ones originally founded by Chinese Buddhist groups (broadly speaking, Mahayana lineage):
Universities:
Dharma Realm Buddhist University is a small liberal arts college located on the tranquil City of Ten Thousand Buddhas in Mendocino County, northern California about 2 hours north of San Francisco. Founded in 1976 by Venerable Hsuan Hua, DRBU uniquely offers students an experiential opportunity to live on the grounds of the country’s largest Mahayana Buddhist monastery, and grants Bachelor’s and Masters of Arts degrees, with accreditation by the WASC.
University of the West is a small liberal arts college founded in 1991 by Venerable Hsing Yun, initially as Hsi Lai College, near Los Angeles in southern California. It is accredited and has undergraduate and masters programs in Buddhist chaplaincy, psychology, business administration, liberal arts, English, and religious studies.
